We are seeing the R22 refrigerants being phased out gradually. There are many food processing facilities, hospitality business magnets and a lot many large scale undertakings that are re-evaluating their industrial refrigerants. This has become a matter of concern for a lot of reasons but the top one remains that of harm to the environment that we are causing. There are also factors like legislative requirements and cost efficiency at play here that have made the use of R22 cumbersome. Consider these factors when picking a refrigerant for your commercial undertaking:

  • Efficiency

  • Safety

  • Environmental impact

  • Thermophysical properties

  • Chemical properties

  • Cost

  • Availability

Apart from cost and availability, the R22 falls flat on all other counts especially when compared to products such as the TDX 20 by Bluon Energy. To understand it better read the primary pros and cons of the R22 Refrigerant:

Pros:

  • The equipment used is much less expensive and is preferred by a lot of households and business owners alike

  • It is easier to install and easy to maintain

  • It is very affordable on your pocket

  • Has low operating pressure

Cons:

  • The primary cause of it being phased out of use and research being carried on to replace it with other eco-friendly alternative is that it is not at all ozone friendly. It produces Chlorofluorocarbons (CFC) which is a greenhouse gas.

  • This is old technology and homeowners who used to rely on it for their cooling and refrigerating needs will soon have to replace their cooling systems by 2020.

  • These older appliances primarily use or R22 Freon which according to government regulations are a concern for our environment and are taxing on our budget. A viable alternative would be a refrigerant that produces hydrofluorocarbons (HFCs) instead. These do not deplete the ozone layer or contribute to global warming.

  • R22 is much lower in efficiency and thus needs to be replaced with something that is more cost effective and does a better job of cooling.
